Kinch/Kill The Sun/Hurricane Sunday – The New Roscoe – June 9th 2008

It was with some degree of hesitation that I agreed to venture to The New Roscoe last Monday to see a ‘friend of a friends’ band called Kinch – I’d heard nothing but good about these lads but I’d also heard they played ‘great keyboard driven pop’, channelled the essence of ‘Ben Folds Five’ and had ‘an unusual funk/jazz sound …’ Funk/Jazz? FUNK/JAZZ?

Topping the 2007 Garforth Festival was always going to be a tall order, especially when it comes to the Playground Party on the final day.  Last year saw the likes of Courtney Pine, The Kate Rusby Band, Eliza Carthy & The Ratcatchers, The James Taylor Quartet and Cara Robinson take to the stage in Leeds 25 and this year is no less star-studded, with the likes of Richard Hawley headlining on the final day, and support coming from Chichino, Jazz Jamaica, Middleman and, from Britain’s Got Talent, Flava.  The Festival boasts other big names, including an evening with Tony Benn and The Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

The Felice Brothers - HiFi – May 27th 2008
Written by Hannah Crank

The Hifi never fails to impress me with the acts they book – in the past week alone we’ve seen an eclectic jumble of acts including the likes of Saul Williams, Vetiver and Bjork-in-waiting Lykke-Li – add to these The Felice Brothers and it’s fair to say the Hifi’s smug door policy is somewhat well placed. You could say it’s the thinking man’s Faversham.
